Natsume Yuujinchou

Story:

Natsume Takashi has the ability to see spirits, which he has long kept secret. However, once he inherits a strange book that belonged to his deceased grandmother, Reiko, he discovers the reason why spirits surround him. Containing the names of these spirits, a binding contract was formed between the spirits and the owner of the book. Now, Natsume is determined to free the spirits and dissolve the contracts. With the help of a spirit cat, his days are filled trying to return the names to these spirits.

I watched this show a while back on CR, but didn't continued watching it until recently. I love the subtle heart-warming, yet bitter sweet, stories told in each episode. The buildup to each encounter and the resolution to each problem shows an interesting take on how Natsume and his friends approach their problems. This is a good story on how Natsume tries to find himself, what he can do, and how he goes about protecting those that are important to him.

The spelling of this show's name may vary depending on where you look. I am just more familiar with calling it Natsume Yuujinchou or Natsume's Book of Friends rather than Natsume Yujin-cho.
